Q

How does a dentist do a deep cleaning?

A

A deep cleaning typically involves scaling and root planing to scrape away and remove all plaque, tartar, and bacteria that exists below the gumline. Depending on the severity of gum disease and tartar buildup, your dentist may have you complete multiple deep cleaning sessions -- usually one quadrant of the mouth at a time -- until all tartar is fully removed.
