Dr. David J. Barton joined Lakewood Family Dental in July of 2013.
He grew up in Bastrop, Louisiana and attended Bastrop High School where he was honored to graduate in 2002 with a 4.0 GPA and as Valedictorian of his class. LA Tech University awarded him with a Bachelors of Animal Biology and a minor in Chemistry in 2006 with a 3.9 GPA. He then received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry graduating in the top 5 of his class with a 3.97 GPA. Dr. Barton was honored with the Dean’s Award for his performance in Didactic and Clinical Achievement. The Robert F. Eastman Memorial Award was given to him for excellence in Operative Dentistry/Biomaterials. At graduation he also received a certificate of recognition from the American Academy of Dental Practice Administration for Excellence and Academic Achievement during dental education in Dental Practice Administration. Dr. Barton was inducted into Omicron Kappa Epsilon Honor Dental Society while at LSU. He received a scholarship to attend the Dawson Academy for training after graduation.
Dr. Barton joined the team of Southern Smiles and Dr. Jennifer N Boles immediately after graduation in June of 2010. He served Mangham, Rayville, and the surrounding areas of Northeast Louisiana for three years before taking the opportunity to join Lakewood Family Dental in July of 2013. Dr. Barton stated he was honored to follow in the footsteps of such a skilled and conscientious dentist as Dr. Pennington.
Dr. Barton avidly pursues to further his education and stay current with CE courses exceeding the annual hours of CE requirements each period. His passion for people is felt through his calm, gentle, yet thorough chairside manner. He often even sings for his patients during local anesthesia to help calm their anxiety.
God and family are Dr. Barton’s passion. He is actively involved in the music department playing the bass guitar and singing with the praise team at their church, the First United Pentecostal Church of Bastrop. Kayla and he also work as part of the ministry team to serve the youth group. He teaches the 9-11 year old’s class on Wednesday night.
Dr. Barton and his wife, Kayla, have 2 sons, Fulton and Owen. Dr. Barton enjoys spending outdoor time with both boys and has led Fulton to be a skilled hunter and marksman. Time with his family is most to Dr. Barton, and he strives to make that a priority.
