Dr. Toback received his Bachelor of Science from St. John’s University (magna cum laude) in 1991, and his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Connecticut in 1995 (Award for Excellence in Restorative and Prosthetic Dentistry). Following completion of his dental degree, Dr. Toback pursued advanced training in periodontics and dental implants at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. In 1998, Dr. Toback returned to Connecticut to begin private practice with Shoreline Periodontics.

He was an appointed faculty at UCONN School of Dental Medicine from 1998 – Present. As an assistant clinical professor during that time, he spent one day per week providing clinical and lecture instructions to dental students and periodontal residents. Dr. Toback frequently lectures on a variety of surgical topics at dental meetings, dental societies, hygienist study clubs and dental study clubs.

Dr. Toback is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He is also a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, Academy of Osseointegration, American Dental Association, Connecticut State Dental Association, Connecticut Society of Periodontists, and New London County Dental Society. He’s received the Connecticut Magazine’s Top Dentist award, as nominated by his peers in Connecticut, for over 15 years. Shoreline Periodontics & Dental Implants is 1 of 23 practices in the country that is part of the prestigious McGuire Institute, a network of master clinicians whose mission it is to ensure patients receive the best and latest procedures in periodontology and implantology based on the most recent research.

Dr. Toback has authored papers in major periodontal and dental implant journals. In addition, he holds a certificate and license to provide services in conscious sedation. Treating patients with anxiety and apprehension holds special interest for Dr. Toback. He has advanced training in medical emergencies and holds a certificate in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). He received the 2017 Clinical Research in Periodontology Award for his contribution to the publication “A Randomized, Controlled, Multicenter Clinical Trial of Post-Extraction Alveolar Ridge Preservation”.

Dr. Toback is certified to treat patients in a wide range of procedures. For gum recession, he can use the Pinhole Surgical Technique (PST), or Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure to correct the gum line. For gum disease Dr. Toback is certified with LANAP, or the Laser-Assisted New Attachment Procedure, to treat gum disease within the periodontal pockets around your teeth. If you are looking for a more advanced form of orthodontics such as Wilkodontics, he is also certified in that.

In 2006, Dr. Toback was invited to join the S.C.P.P. (Society for Contemporary and Progressive Periodontists). This select group of 10 leading periodontists from across the nation was developed to provide objective evaluation of new research and technology, and evaluate best practices in the clinical delivery of periodontal and implant dentistry. In addition, the S.C.P.P. developed customized computer software that allowed the 10 members to combine clinical research data on dental implants and bone regeneration, in a way never before possible.
