Your third molars, also known as wisdom teeth, can be safely removed if your dentist feels that doing so is necessary to maintain the appearance of your smile and the functionality of other teeth. Every year in the United States, an estimated 10 million teeth are extracted from approximately five million people, reports the Dental Press Journal of Orthodontics.
