First and foremost, Dr. Salil Mehta pursued the field of Dentistry to help others. As a child, Dr. Mehta got to experience different cultures, people, and environments. His family moved from the Fiji Islands (where Dr. Mehta was born) to England, to Wales and then finally to Michigan. Although the moving brought distinct challenges for his family, it also allowed them to relate to people from all walks of life and taught them how to acclimate to different environments and situations.

Having a physician as a father, Dr. Mehta developed an interest in health care and more importantly—helping people. From observing his father, Dr. Mehta learned, from a young age, that is vital to treat each and every patient like a family member and keep their health interest a top priority. Through his exposure to healthcare, Dr. Mehta developed an interest in sciences. He decided to pursue these interests in college where Dr. Mehta attended the University of Michigan—Ann Arbor. During his time in Ann Arbor, he completed his B.S. degree in Microbiology. He held several research positions and also was heavily involved in school organizations where he held several leadership positions. After graduating from the University of Michigan, Dr. Mehta pursued his dental degree at the Boston University Goldman School of Dentistry.

As any dentist will tell you, dental school has it’s share of challenges through the rigorous didactic and clinical curriculum. However, it is also one of the most rewarding experiences—from the community outreach programs, mentorship from faculty members, lifelong bonds developed with classmates to the completion of four years of intense training.

To seek further training, Dr. Mehta completed a one year General Practice Residency at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. This was an important year for Dr. Mehta to refine and hone many of the skills he has developed today. At Kings County, Dr. Mehta was able to learn many of the new technologies used in Dentistry today. In addition to developing his dental skills, Dr. Mehta received invaluable exposure to trauma patients since the hospital was one of the busiest trauma centers in the area.

Since finishing his residency Dr. Mehta has continued to pursue his education beyond school by taking numerous continuing education courses thereby expanding his knowledge and the services he can offer his patients. It is the goal of Fresh Dentistry, and Dr. Mehta, to offer not only the best amenities, technology, and service, but to provide each and every patient who enters the door with a comprehensive, comfortable and convenient experience. Dr. Mehta strongly believes that each person is unique and that he and the patient must work as a team to explore all treatment options to tailor a treatment plan that will fulfill all goals discussed. Above all else, Dr. Mehta’s main concern is to help each and every patient that he treats—whether that is by doing a routine examination or completing a challenging case. The one constant theme he believes in is putting the patient first!

At home, Dr. Mehta enjoys spending time with his wife Nikita, son Neelay, dog Chachi and the rest of his friends and family. He looks forward to building Fresh Dentistry and helping serve the community!
