It generally involves taking gum tissue from one part of the mouth and grafting it on another where gum recession has become a problem. External sources of gum material may also be used<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The purpose is to repair receded gums and to cover exposed parts of the tooth, including in extreme cases, the roots. It also can be used to repair or cover damaged gum tissue, including tissue that is rotting (the tissue is removed and the graft is put in place.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Local anesthesia is usually used in this procedure and the graft itself is outpatient. Recovery is days for some people but a week or two for most.
