Q

What is the difference between a dentist and a periodontist?

A

A dentist examines, cleans, and treats the teeth, gums, and inside of the mouth, while a periodontist specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of gum disease. A dentist may refer you to a periodontist if you need treatment for gum disease, or repairs for dental issues caused by gum disease.
