HealthyStart can help your child grow straight and healthy teeth, without metal braces or harmful corrective surgery.

HealthyStart orthodontics is a simple teeth alignment system that is used on children. The HealthyStart system helps promote straight, healthy teeth in children, ensuring that they have an aligned bite and a good smile that will last a long time. HealthyStart is designed to correct orthodontic problems such as overbite, overjet, open bite, crowded teeth, and more. It can also help treat sleeping and breathing problems, which may be linked to symptoms such as ADHD, bedwetting, snoring, teeth grinding, restless sleep, and daytime drowsiness.

This treatment is designed to work with the natural growth and development of your child to help straighten their teeth naturally over time. Parents may prefer this treatment because it is not as harsh on the teeth as braces, while still improving the smile.

The HealthyStart process consists of three main phases:

Habit Corrector

This phase can last between 1 to 5 months depending on the stage of development your child is in. The Habit Corrector is simple to use. The child wears a comfortable device in their mouth overnight, and transitions to different versions as they grow. The Habit Corrector helps correct some damaging oral health habits, such as teeth grinding, while also helping to expand and develop the airway in order to address the root cause of Sleep Disordered Breathing.

Second Phase

Once the Habit Corrector phase is complete, your child will move onto the second phase. During this phase, the child will transition to an appliance that has been customized to them. The goal of this appliance is to expand the arches and guide any emerging teeth into the right position.

Depending on the child, this phase typically lasts between 2 to 6 months. Children who have teeth that take longer to grow in will likely need to use the appliance longer.

The Final Phase

The final phase will not start until your child has a minimum of four adult, or permanent, teeth in place. The final phase is similar to the second phase, as it requires your child to use a device that will extend their palate while guiding their teeth to the right positions.

What conditions can HealthyStart treat?

Your dental provider may recommend HealthyStart to help if your child has:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Overbite: A common condition in which the upper teeth cover most or all of the lower teeth
  • Underbite: A condition where the lower front teeth extend further outward than the upper front teeth
  • Overjet: A condition in which the the upper teeth horizontally overlap the lower teeth
  • Open bite: This is when the front teeth do not touch when the mouth closes

HealthyStart provides permanent results without corrective surgery or the metal braces that cause discomfort. This treatment option will also be completed before your child turns 12, making it an effective way to provide your child with the healthy teeth they need to last a lifetime.

To ensure that your child has the best dental care possible for their teeth from an early age, ask your dentist if HealthyStart is the right option!
